INCA – Intergenerational Network for Climate Action in the Andes
“I used to see the páramo as a place that was simply there. I never thought there was something I could do to protect it. When we began working alongside older members of our community, I discovered that they had knowledge that we young people did not know. I also realized that we had things to teach them.
We learned how to care for native plants, talked about climate change, and took part in restoration activities. What I liked most was realizing that we were not working separately because of our ages. We were a community learning from one another.
Now, when I walk through the páramo, I see it differently. I feel responsible for this place and know that I can contribute to protecting it. I used to think environmental protection was someone else’s responsibility. Now I know that young people can be part of the solution.”
